About The Position

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) drives to the scene, provides initial emergency care, determines the most suitable medical facility for the patient and transports the individual there. This is a casual position, working less than 32 hours every two weeks.

Requirements

  • CPR certification
  • Current Minnesota EMR certification
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process
  • Must be able to attend the work site per schedule

Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment - At the scene, EMR’s perform patient assessment with support of on-site EMT, determining the nature and extent of injury or illness. They check for medical alert bracelets or necklaces, and any medication the person is carrying.
  • Basic Life Support - First Responders provide basic life support, which may include airway management, ventilation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automatic defibrillator.
  • Additional Care - Prehospital care also may require controlling bleeding, treating shock, bandaging wounds and immobilizing broken bones.
  • Communication with Dispatch - EMR keeps the dispatcher informed and, if necessary, requests additional assistance or special rescue, such as a flight ambulance.
  • Ambulance Maintenance - EMR also are responsible for cleaning and sterilizing the interior of the ambulance, making sure the exterior is washed regularly and restocking all supplies.
