The Emergency Management Specialist serves in FEMA Region 3’s Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program. The role focuses on emergency planning and preparedness, including activities related to crises, disasters, humanitarian emergencies, natural hazards, and man-made or technological incidents. The specialist coordinates and supports emergency response preparedness training, exercises, and local assistance. The ideal candidate has experience reviewing or developing radiological emergency response plans and/or conducting or evaluating radiological emergency-related exercises. FEMA employees have regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities and may be recalled at any time to support operations. Duties may involve irregular work hours, work outside the official duty station, and assignments beyond the position’s usual description. Emergency deployments may require extensive travel with little advance notice and extended stays at emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions. The selected employee must attend a three-week in-person training course in Emmitsburg, Maryland, within six months of onboarding.
