About The Position

The Village of Tinley Park seeks dedicated and responsible applicants for multiple year-round part-time EMA Member vacancies and multiple summer concert traffic-control vacancies. The Emergency Management Agency provides emergency and nonemergency support to Village public safety agencies and mutual-aid support to other communities. This is a non-sworn position with no law enforcement authority. EMA Members assist with observing and reporting emergency and non-emergency conditions in the Village. Duties include directing pedestrian and vehicular traffic; monitoring crowd control at special events; supporting first aid, shelter operations, emergency planning, and donation management; and assisting during disasters or major incidents. Members regularly provide traffic control for major concert events at the Credit Union Amphitheatre and other scheduled Village events. They may also support Fire, Public Works, other Village departments, and other communities when emergencies arise. Members serve as a liaison between the community and Police Department during assignments and report street, sign, curb, sidewalk, obstruction, visibility, fire, medical-service, and potential crime conditions to the appropriate department. They must safely operate Village vehicles in all weather, work under stressful conditions involving public contact, and communicate information over the public safety radio network. Hours vary according to scheduled events and emergencies. Members must attend at least one scheduled evening meeting and training day per month and remain available for a range of day, afternoon, and evening shifts. After initial training, members sign up for available event and emergency hours. At least 120 hours annually are required to remain an EMA Member; average annual hours are approximately 350, with up to 999 hours available to individuals with open availability. The training-period rate is $16.80 per hour, typically for 60–90 days, with the opportunity for an increase after meeting training requirements and demonstrating competency.
