About The Position

The Unit Coordinator works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, and Registered Nurse. The primary function is to perform clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and maintaining patient records in the Emergency Department, and to coordinate functions for the Transfer Center. The position may require work on other nursing units. The coordinator supports SOMC's strategic values by providing exceptional care to those served and performs other duties as assigned.

This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week night-shift position in the Emergency Department.

Requirements

• High school diploma or successful completion of an equivalent high school exam.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Six months of healthcare-related experience.

Responsibilities

• Transcribe and process physicians' orders.
• Order tests, treatments, medications, and supplies.
• Maintain patients' records.
• Serve as a communications source for the nursing unit.
• Record data and reports, and enter patient charges and other information.
• Welcome and greet people coming onto the unit.
• Use telephone etiquette in accordance with SOMC's Code of Conduct.
• Coordinate Transfer Center functions.
• Perform daily PICIS checks.
• Wear a Vocera Badge for CareView Monitoring and communication with nursing staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
