About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician provides patient care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs, in accordance with the organization’s mission, guiding behaviors, standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines. The position is based in the Emergency Department at Mount Carmel Grove City and is scheduled for three 12-hour shifts per week, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., with rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent.
• Successful completion of approved course(s) that include basic patient care skills, EKG, and phlebotomy.
• BLS certification.
• Effective communication skills.

• Previous patient care experience and/or technical education in a health-related field.

Responsibilities

• Respond to patient needs in a timely manner.
• Transport and escort patients.
• Perform visual acuity checks, eye irrigations, and equipment setups.
• Perform phlebotomy and obtain laboratory specimens as ordered.
• Follow protocols and participate as a team member in trauma, stroke, heart, and sepsis alerts and resuscitations.
• Perform wound care and use sterile technique when appropriate.
• Perform suture and staple removal, excluding the facial region.
• Provide Foley catheter care and collect specimens.
• Perform EKGs.
• Collect and document patient data, including vital signs, weight, and procedures performed.
• Report observations and changes in patient condition to the RN and/or physician in a timely manner, including changes in vital signs and symptoms.
