About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) provides essential support within the Emergency Department, assisting with patient care, clinical procedures, and department operations. This PRN position involves weekday evening shifts and may require coverage for the Medical-Surgical floor. The role is crucial for ensuring efficient patient flow, maintaining a safe and organized environment, and collaborating effectively with the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program preferred
  • Advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS, PALS) preferred or as required by facility
  • 1–2 years of experience in emergency, acute care, or patient care settings preferred
  • Previous experience as a nursing assistant, EMT, or clinical technician is advantageous

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient intake, vital signs, and initial assessments
  • Prepare patients for exams, procedures, or diagnostic tests
  • Monitor patient conditions and report changes to nursing staff
  • Perform basic clinical procedures such as wound care, splinting, or EKGs, as trained
  • Assist on the hospital floor with patient care, answer call lights, phones, assist patients with basic cares, etc.
  • Specimen collection including urine, stool, and sputum
  • Phlebotomy (after competency completion)
  • Act as a backup for the CNA staff and cover breaks
  • Transport patients to and from the ER, imaging, or other departments
  • Restock supplies and maintain clean, organized treatment areas
  • Assist with equipment setup and maintenance
  • Support triage process by gathering patient information and history
  • Follow infection control protocols and standard precautions
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA compliance)
  • Report on unsafe conditions or incidents to nursing or supervisory staff
  • Work closely with nurses, physicians, and other ER staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Communicate patient needs, changes, and concerns promptly
  • Answer phone calls, admit patients via computer
  • Notify Ancillary Staff when needed (Lab, Radiology, Respiratory)
  • Provide support and reassurance to patients and families
