Tech-Emergency Department - Various Shifts
About The Position
The ED Technician assists with delegated tasks of direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. This role is responsible for assisting with orthopedic procedures as delegated by physicians and other health team members. The technician performs vital sign assessment and documentation, triage assessment and documentation under the direct supervision of a RN, completion of 12 EKGs, application of orthopedic devices including traction and OCL splints, patient education regarding orthopedic devices and crutch walking, assistance with wound care, ENT, orthopedic procedures, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, foley leg bag application, c-spine immobilization, and bladder scanning. The ED tech will also provide assistance in the maintenance of supplies for the Emergency Department and assist with orientation, training, and quality assurance activities. This individual must be able to communicate patient status data and delegated tasks effectively. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and interpret patient information relative to age-specific needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum one year of patient care experience required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Works flexible hours that may include days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
- Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
- Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification through the Arizona Department of Health Services required.
Nice To Haves
- 1 year ED experience preferred.
- Previous emergency department patient care experience preferred.
Responsibilities

- Perform vital sign assessment and documentation.
- Perform triage assessment and documentation under the direct supervisor of a RN.
- Complete 12 EKGs.
- Apply orthopedic devices to include traction and OCL splints.
- Provide patient education with regards to the application of orthopedic devices, crutch walking, etc.
- Assist with wound care, ENT, orthopedic procedures, eye/ear irrigations, suture/staple removal, foley leg bag application, c-spine immobilization and bladder scanning.
- Provide assistance in the evolution and maintenance of supplies pertaining to the Emergency Department.
- Assist with orientation, training and quality assurance activities for the Emergency Department.
- Communicate data reflective of the patient's status, delegated tasks and/or functions.
- Interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
