About The Position

The Emergency Department Technician II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician III performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. This position may require working irregular hours under stressful conditions, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends. Failure to abide by MUHA policies are subject to disciplinary action, including termination. Positions within the Emergency Department require a copy of academic degree or transcript.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of patient care experience in a health care environment or certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
• BLS certification with Red Cross or AHA.
• Ability to perform job functions while standing (Frequent).

• Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required (Continuous).
• At least 1 year in a .6fte ED Technician I position at MUSC or a Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, CMA, Paramedic, Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), or a military medical occupation; or at least 1 year of in patient hospital experience; or a college degree, or active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; or active enrollment in a healthcare related field from an accredited institution.
• Basic Life Support required within 2 weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred experience working as a Patient Care Tech, nursing assistant, or nursing student enrolled in an accredited institution with the completion of one Adult Medical/Surgical course with hands on clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
• Successfully pass the on-line course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills, and EKG training within six months of hire date.
• Successful completion of the Emergency Department Technician unit specific training and competency demonstration within the first six months of employment.
