About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at a Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA. This facility has 375 licensed beds, with 46 beds in the Emergency Department, including 5 dedicated Safe Psych rooms. The average daily patient volume is 200 patients. We are looking for nurses with a minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience. First-time travelers are welcome. The role involves caring for a diverse patient population across all age groups, from pediatrics to geriatrics, with a wide range of conditions including trauma, GSW, sepsis, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health issues, respiratory problems, adult psych patients, high-acuity medical cases, and a high geriatric patient population. The unit is supported by Emergency Room Technicians, a Charge Nurse (primarily leadership), a Resource and Float Nurse, an ED Educator, 24/7 security, 24/7 Social Work Services, and around-the-clock pharmacy support.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
  • CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Institute / Management of Assaultive Behavior) certification.
  • Proficient in general Emergency Department skills.
  • Proficient in cardiac rhythm interpretation.
  • Proficient in IV administration.
  • Experience with procedural sedation.
  • Experience with blood administration.
  • Experience with cardiac medications.
  • Recent experience with EPIC electronic health records is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Department.
  • Manage a caseload of 1 RN to 4-5 patients during day shifts, with flexibility based on acuity and staffing needs.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms.
  • Administer IV medications and treatments.
  • Perform procedural sedation.
  • Administer blood products.
  • Administer cardiac medications.
  • Utilize EPIC electronic health records for charting.
  • Collaborate with Emergency Room Technicians, Charge Nurse, Resource/Float Nurse, ED Educator, Social Work, and Pharmacy.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and codes.
