About The Position

Our skilled Emergency Department Medical Technicians are dedicated to providing rapid medical support, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety in the most urgent and stressful situations. This role involves providing direct and indirect patient care within the scope of medical certification. The position is 0.8 FTE (64 hours per two-week pay period) with a combination of 8- and 12-hour day and evening shifts, and an every third weekend rotation.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description.
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent for positions utilizing i-STAT testing.
  • Certified Emergency Medical Tech – EMT - Office of EMS required if working in MN
  • Certified Emergency Medical Tech – EMT – WI – Emergency Medical Services required if working in WI
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification upon hire
  • Certified Nursing Assistant - Minnesota Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry if working in state of MN upon hire/ WI Department of Health Services Nurse Aide Registry if working in the state of WI upon hire
  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent for positions not utilizing i-STAT testing
  • 1+ experience in acute health care setting
  • 1+ experience in basic arrhythmia and EKG interpretation
  • Licensed EMT or Certified EMT or CNA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Independently provides direct and indirect patient care within scope of medical certification.
  • Performs phlebotomy, EKG, wound preparation, applying splints, obtaining specimen, and fitting/educating of durable medical equipment.
  • Provides care to patients under the direction of the RN, including assisting with grooming, hygiene, and personal comfort.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Performs equipment set up and maintenance.
  • Monitors blood glucose.
  • Performs CPR.
  • Conducts visual acuity exams.
  • Applies wound dressings.
  • Applies oxygen.
  • Assists with procedures.
  • Performs irrigations.
  • Applies restraints.
  • Applies pressure dressings.
  • Transfers fall risk patients.
  • Assists with pelvic exams.
  • Performs decontamination procedures.
  • Places and removes backboards and c-collars.
  • Assists patients with grooming, hygiene, personal comfort, and population-specific needs.
  • Plans and organizes for procedures.
  • May handle medication for procedural set up, stocking, and transport.
  • May assist in rooming and transporting of patients.
  • Distributes and sets up water, snacks, and patient trays and assists patients.
  • Maintains skin integrity.
  • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) according to activity order and patient needs.
  • Contributes to a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Answers patient call lights.
  • Uses equipment following policies, procedures, and manufacturer directions or standards.
  • Reports hazards and/or potential work hazards.
  • May participate in room and equipment cleaning and room turnover.
  • May support administrative and training duties.
  • May process physician orders.
  • May order and stock supplies.
  • May answer and screen phone calls.
  • May serve as a preceptor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
