About The Position

Our skilled Emergency Department Medical Technicians are dedicated to providing rapid medical support, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety in the most urgent and stressful situations. This role involves providing patient care within the scope of medical certification, including phlebotomy, EKG, wound preparation, applying splints, obtaining specimens, and educating on and fitting durable medical equipment. The technician will also provide care under the direction of an RN, assisting with wound dressings, oxygen application, procedures, irrigations, restraining applications, pressure dressings, transferring fall risk patients, and the placement and removal of backboards and c-collars. Participation in quality improvement activities is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent for positions utilizing i-STAT testing
  • EMT, MDH, or NREMT certification upon hire
  • EMT, MDH, or NREMT within 6 months of hire if currently enrolled in an EMT education program
  • Active Certified Nursing Assistant Licensure on Minnesota Department of Health
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent for positions not utilizing i-STAT testing
  • 1+ experience in acute healthcare setting
  • 1+ experience in basic arrhythmia and EKG interpretation
  • Licensed EMT or Certified EMT or CNA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Within scope of medical certification, independently provides patient care.
  • Provides care to patients under the direction of RN.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Within scope of position, independently performs patient care.
  • Under the direction of the RN, provides patient care.
  • Plans and organizes for procedures.
  • Facilitates admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • May handle medication for procedural set up, stocking and transport.
  • Distributes and sets up water, snacks and patient trays and assists patients.
  • Maintains skin integrity.
  • Provides assistance with ambulation, transfer, positioning and range of motion (ROM) according to activity order and needs of the patient.
  • Contributes to an environment that is safe for patients, visitors and employees.
  • Uses equipment following policies, procedure and manufacturer directions or standards.
  • Reports hazards and/or potential hazards.
  • Supports administrative work and training.
  • Orders and maintains supplies and equipment.
  • May process physician orders.
  • May provide clerical support for the department.
  • May serve as a preceptor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
