About The Position

This position is 28 hours per week, with one 12-hour shift (11a-11:30p) and two 8-hour shifts (7a - 3:30p), including rotating weekends and holidays. The role involves maintaining the E.D. medical record, including review for completeness, entering charges, departing charts, entering data into the computer, assembling files, and performing discharge analysis. Unit receptionist duties include maintaining a telephone log, greeting visitors, specimen delivery, mail distribution, and booking elective procedures. The position is responsible for all clerical duties in the E.D., including transcription of physician orders and medication orders via computer. Maintaining proper inventory of office supplies, forms, and equipment, including ordering and restocking for the department, is also a key responsibility. Assembly of charts, admission packets, and other assigned projects are part of the role. Reviewing documentation for accuracy, including charging for services and verifying with caregivers, and entering charges or revisions into the computer system are essential. The role requires answering multiple telephones with proper etiquette and speed, interacting professionally with callers to meet their needs. Accurate and efficient documentation of workflow, including maintenance of logs and statistical databases, is expected. Coordination of securing ambulances, helicopter transport, and other transportation services by relaying complete and accurate information in a timely fashion is required. Responding to clinical and support directives to make calls, secure resources, and transport specimens and other items are also part of the duties. Assisting the Patient Access Representative when needed to ensure effective patient registration is part of the role. Requirements

  • Apply critical thinking skills while working independently
  • Ability to remain calm, focused and efficient in a high stress critical care environment.
  • Successful completion of a medical terminology course and/or passing of medical term test as part of hiring process.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an organized environment.
  • Demonstrated computer ability; knowledge of Meditech order entry, charge and order screens.
  • Demonstrated professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have legible handwriting.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain quick pace as part of regular routine while maintaining positive, enthusiastic attitude and relationships with others.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
