About The Position

The City of Katy Emergency Communications Center is the nerve center of public safety operations for our community. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you are the link between a citizen in crisis and the help that saves them. You will handle 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls across Police, Fire, and Medical channels, dispatch personnel using computer-aided dispatch systems, maintain critical data records in local, state, and national systems, and serve as an essential resource after hours for animal control, public works, and parks. This position is designated Critical Personnel. During disasters or catastrophic events, you may be required to remain on duty and perform duties beyond your normal scope to protect the continuity of City operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Ability to stay composed when everything is happening at once.
  • Ability to rapidly absorb, verify, and relay information with precision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and confidently in writing and verbally, across radio and phone simultaneously.
  • Ability to follow protocols.
  • Knowledge of Katy's streets, geography, and city boundaries, or commitment to learn them fast.
  • Readiness for shift work - nights, weekends, holidays, and during bad weather.

Responsibilities

  • Handle 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, and Medical including TDD systems.
  • Real-time dispatch of Police, Fire & EMS via computer-aided dispatch.
  • NCIC/TCIC entries, warrants, and SETCIC/TLETS/NLETS system management.
  • Accurate information relay and documentation under high-pressure conditions.
  • Processing subjects from jail including cash payments and bonds.
  • Dispatching animal control, public works, and parks after business hours.
