About The Position

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as Emergency Call Takers. This role is crucial for maintaining public safety by receiving and processing emergency calls. HCSO prides itself on stability, excellence, and high professional standards, offering a unique and rewarding work environment. Current starting hourly rate is $21.74, with a potential increase for those possessing a valid State of Florida 9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification. The position requires obtaining First Aid, CPR, and FCIC/NCIC certifications during the probationary period.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED certificate.
Possession of a valid State of Florida 9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification.
One year of experience receiving and assessing calls for assistance.
Ability to respond to emergency situations calmly and effectively.
Ability to accurately assess emergency information and make correct decisions.
Ability to operate computerized telephone equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and established procedures.
Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain confidential information.
Ability to accurately sort, file, and retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical, or chronological systems.
Must obtain First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (FCIC/NCIC) certifications during the probationary period.
No visible tattoos on face, head, and neck. Tattoos that detract from professional appearance must be covered.
No illegal drug sale in lifetime.
No illegal drug use in the past 36 months.
No marijuana use in the last 12 months.
No felony convictions in lifetime.
No misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence in lifetime.
No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, U.S. Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve Forces.
Successful completion of a background investigation including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation; and drug screening.
Live within Hillsborough County or within Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Lake, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, or Sumter County within a 60-mile parameter of Falkenburg Road Jail at the time of appointment/employment (certified only).

Responsibilities

Receive 9-1-1 calls, assess the situation, and record information.
Redirect calls to the appropriate agency or Sheriff's dispatcher.
Enter information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
Connect conference calls involving multiple parties for emergency assistance.
Initiate emergency callbacks for additional information or disconnected calls.
Create reports to identify and correct incorrect location information from the Automatic Location Information system.
Pinpoint emergency call locations using GPS.
Research law enforcement databases to verify information and provide it to responding officers.
Type memoranda and reports, duplicate or edit emergency call recordings for subpoenas and public records requests.
Testify in court regarding information received from calls.
Maintain records and reports, including shift reports and operational logs.
Perform other related duties as required.
