About The Position

The Emergence Academy is the Springfield Empowerment Zone’s (SEZP) English Language Learner program targeting the language development of Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE). The SLIFE Program will support students to build critical language skills, focusing on improving their reading and writing abilities through leveled guided reading, phonics, writing curriculum, as well as through hands-on Science instruction. Math skills will also be targeted through instruction rooted in Common Core standards as well as through math fluency remediation to target key foundational math skills. By supporting teachers to develop high-quality curriculum, develop active monitoring plans, collect meaningful data, and plan targeted weekly remediation, we will support accelerated student language development by individualizing our responses to student needs. Additionally, by partnering with students and families we will support students to meet high expectations and build the habits necessary for accelerated academic growth and future academic success in high school and college.

About the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership:
In 2015, the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Springfield Public Schools partnered to form the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership (SEZP). SEZP is committed to ensuring that the middle and high schools in “The Zone” are engaging environments where teachers receive the supports they need to grow professionally, and students have the opportunity to acquire the academic and personal skills to succeed in the college or career of their choice. Each SEZP school has the autonomy to craft and implement its own, unique vision for success and receives support from an ecosystem of national-caliber partners. Furthermore, Teacher Leadership Teams at each school ensure that teacher voice is heard and that there is strong communication between school administration and staff.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED, and Associate of Arts or Science Degree or higher, or 60 undergraduate college credits, or Meeting or exceeding the State mandated score on the Paraprofessional Assessment or Work Keys Assessment

Nice To Haves

• BA Degree with Educator Licensure
• Experience working with special education students in education settings
• A passing score on the Work Keys Exams in the following areas: Reading: 5 Math: 4 Writing: 3
