About The Position

RTX seeks an Embedded Software Security Engineer I to develop and support security software for deployed sensor systems across various platforms. The role involves applying software security principles throughout embedded software design, development, integration, and testing of real-time sensor software, and developing applications in multiple programming languages across a variety of computing platforms. The engineer ensures that Software Product Assurance processes are followed and understands real-time software design and the performance implications of security implementations. The role also collaborates with cross-functional engineering teams on Test Driven Multidisciplinary Capability (TDMC) execution, development, and deployment requirements, and works in a common development environment that helps programs leverage specific capabilities. This is an onsite position at RTX’s El Segundo, California campus. An active, existing Secret-level U.S. government security clearance is required before starting and on day one; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited institution.

  • Strong object-oriented design knowledge.
  • Active and existing Secret-level security clearance required.
  • Education or on-the-job experience in one or more of the following: Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), kernel or device driver development, or software integration.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving experience.
  • Experience developing software in a team-based environment, with strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing embedded software using ADA, Rust, or similar secure programming languages.
  • Modeling and simulation knowledge, including experience with MATLAB.
  • Cybersecurity experience with security-relevant tools and devices for vulnerability scanning, security auditing, network security, host/server security, communication security, or policy management.
  • Experience with product development using Scrum techniques in the Agile software development process.
  • Experience implementing and using DevSecOps pipelines, including static code analysis, automated builds, and automated testing with continuous integration/continuous delivery and a test-driven development approach.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies and software hardening techniques.
  • Familiarity with software tools such as Git, GitLab, CMake, Eclipse, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Google Test, and Qt.

Responsibilities

  • Implement software security principles for embedded software design, development, integration, and testing of real-time sensor software.
  • Develop software applications using multiple programming languages on a variety of computing platforms.
  • Ensure Software Product Assurance processes are followed on programs.
  • Understand real-time software design and the performance implications of specific system security implementations.
  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams to define and implement TDMC-based execution, development, and deployment requirements.
