About The Position

Bright Silicon Technologies is seeking a Software Engineer passionate about moving new technology to production. This role involves bridging the gap between users and hardware, refining networking and controls software stacks, and collaborating with a cross-functional team to design, build, and test a precision beam steering device. The company is pioneering state-of-the-art solid-state optical beam-control and is looking for innovators and hard workers. This is an opportunity for a talented engineer to take on challenges and play a leading role in the future of an exciting technology and valuable company. The pay range is determined by role, level, and location, and the offered base pay may vary based on internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in C++, Python, MATLAB for system-level programming and process automation
  • Experience designing networked systems using industry standard protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, serial) with a core understanding of latency, throughput, and reliability tradeoffs
  • Experience developing high-performance multithreaded applications and POSIX standards
  • Familiarity with Git, automated build and test pipelines
  • Excellent communication skills with experience working with a cross-functional, distributed team.
  • Self-starter mentality with a proactive approach to uncovering risks and managing dependencies.
  • System-oriented, with the ability and desire to dive deep into the smallest detail
  • U.S. Person status (citizen, lawful permanent resident (green card holder), or a protected individual) required due to Government sensitive information (CUI and ITAR).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity interfacing with hardware (embedded devices, lab equipment, etc.) over standard serial interfaces
  • Experience with lightweight frontend UI design for internal automation and user-facing GUIs (e.g. Qt, React)
  • Knowledge of Electrical Engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with containerization of applications and automated deployment and scaling platforms
  • Experience with database management systems
  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to take ownership of projects and independently implement, test, and improve designs

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust high-performance APIs for low-latency MEMS device control
  • Interface with hardware, metrology, and optical systems for computer vision and process automation
  • Design lightweight frontend interfaces for customers and internal manufacturing stages
  • Containerize process automation apps for scalable deployment to support manufacturing growth
  • Develop and maintain databases for manufacturing and calibration
  • Own the core embedded software architecture for optical payloads, driving real-time control, firmware, and low-level drivers from board bring-up through field flight tests.
  • Solve embedded challenges at the intersection of microcontrollers, high-bandwidth data pipelines, and precise motion control under extreme environmental constraints.
  • Architect the foundational software powering resilient, off-grid optical communications for next-generation, high-speed network topologies.
