About The Position

PGS Worldwide is seeking Secret-Cleared Embedded Software Engineers in Owego, New York for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. These positions will design, develop, test, and maintain secure processing applications and high-performance embedded software for mission-critical platforms operating in a classified environment. Two openings are available.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
5–6 years of professional C/C++ development experience, preferably in embedded or real-time environments.
Strong proficiency with modern C++ such as C++14, C++17, or C++20.
Strong C programming experience.
Experience developing embedded software for bare-metal and/or RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS or VxWorks.
1–2 years of experience developing and executing software verification procedures.
Experience creating test plans, verification matrices, and compliance documentation.
Strong debugging skills using hardware tools such as JTAG, SWD, and logic analyzers.
Experience using Git for version control.
Ability to diagnose, analyze, and resolve complex software and hardware integration issues.
Experience creating technical documentation such as design documents, interface specifications, and maintenance guides.
Active Full Secret security clearance required to start.

Nice To Haves

Bare-metal software development for microcontrollers or Systems-on-Chip.
Hardware driver development for ASICs, FPGA interfaces, and peripheral devices.
Experience developing firmware, drivers, and hardware-abstraction layers.
Experience integrating software with Xilinx or PolarFire FPGA subsystems.
Experience with Vivado, Libero, Vitis, or SoftConsole.
Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
Experience with CMake and/or Make build systems.
Python, Bash, or PowerShell scripting experience.
C# development experience for tooling, test harnesses, or GUI applications.
Experience with GoogleTest or similar unit-testing frameworks.
Familiarity with MISRA C/C++ and C++ Core Guidelines.
Agile development experience.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, debug, and maintain modern C++ software for secure processing applications.
Develop and sustain embedded software used across multiple mission-critical programs.
Develop low-level C/C++ software for bare-metal and real-time operating system environments.
Work with hardware engineers to integrate software with microcontrollers, ASICs, FPGAs, and peripheral hardware.
Develop firmware, drivers, and hardware-abstraction layers.
Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines used for automated builds, testing, and deployment.
Develop build and workflow automation using tools such as CMake, Make, Python, Bash, and PowerShell.
Develop and execute software verification procedures and maintain associated test documentation.
Perform peer reviews and unit testing.
Maintain coding standards and comprehensive software test suites.
Create software design documents, interface specifications, and maintenance documentation.
Participate in Agile stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
