About The Position
As a Software Engineer in Trimble’s Field Systems segment, you will develop high-performance GPS signal recovery and timing software for demanding aviation applications. The role focuses on advanced GPS engines for the defense aerospace industry and contributes to the safety of global aviation and the development of precision positioning technology. You will produce work products for DO-178-certified systems and follow structured processes for mission-critical software. The position is based in Sunnyvale, California, and is in-office, with no travel required. It requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret-level clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for this process.
Requirements
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain a DOD secret-level clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.
- Hold a BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- Have proven expertise designing software for minimal architectures and real-time or time-critical applications, such as embedded systems or high-speed servers.
- Have a strong understanding of digital hardware and microprocessor architecture.
- Be proficient in C and Python 3.x and understand modular, structured software design.
- Have experience with multi-threaded operating systems and advanced multi-threaded software design.
- Be familiar with Configuration Management tools and processes and development lifecycles including Agile, Waterfall, and Iterative Spiral.
- Have strong verbal, written, and technical documentation skills.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with GPS or communication systems.
- Experience with object-oriented programming in C++.
Responsibilities
- Design modular software from interpreting requirements through final implementation for high-performance GPS signal recovery and timing.
- Develop time-critical solutions in close collaboration with hardware and firmware teams.
- Follow structured processes to document and verify software and achieve DO-178 certification for mission-critical products.
