Embedded Software Engineer - Battery Management

Delart•Sunnyvale, CA
•$130,000 - $170,000

About The Position

Delart is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer to develop embedded software for next-generation wearable devices, with a focus on battery management and power systems. The role involves architecting and delivering firmware that interacts directly with battery hardware to support reliable, efficient, and safe device operation. The engineer will work across hardware and software boundaries and collaborate with electrical engineering, cell suppliers, hardware validation, and product teams.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience developing production-grade embedded C for microcontrollers.
  • Direct experience with embedded RTOS environments such as Zephyr or FreeRTOS, and bare-metal firmware bring-up.
  • Experience developing I2C and SPI peripheral drivers and debugging them with logic or protocol analyzers.
  • Experience integrating and debugging Linux kernel drivers, especially in the power supply subsystem.
  • Proficiency reading datasheets and implementing register-level and bitfield logic, including managing errata.
  • Ability to debug real hardware using JTAG/SWD, serial consoles, and bench instrumentation such as power analyzers, SMUs, and thermal chambers.
  • Python proficiency for test automation, device log parsing, and field data analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with battery management technologies, including fuel gauges, coulomb counting, OCV/impedance-based SoC estimation, charger ICs, JEITA charging, battery NVM configuration, and protection circuits.
  • In-depth knowledge of lithium-ion cell behavior, including aging, temperature effects, and failure mechanisms.
  • Experience analyzing fleet-scale data with SQL or equivalent analytics tools and validating fixes against real-world field data.
  • Ownership of hardware components across consumer product lifecycles, including EVT, DVT, PVT, and factory bring-up, with active involvement in failure-analysis loops.
  • Track record of responding to production incidents for shipped hardware in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain battery and power-management firmware for resource-constrained microcontrollers, including fuel-gauge drivers, charge control, and thermal mitigation.
  • Integrate and validate fuel gauges and charger ICs at the register level, including configuring NVM, setting protection thresholds, implementing JEITA profiles, and supporting capacity-learning features.
  • Develop the device-side telemetry stack for battery data and validate signals end-to-end against hardware ground truth to support field diagnostics.
  • Diagnose and root-cause complex field and laboratory failures spanning hardware and software, identifying whether triggers originate in firmware, silicon, or power-management peripherals.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, cell suppliers, hardware validation, and product teams, translating component specifications and observed fleet behaviors.
  • Drive firmware correctness and reliability, especially for safety-critical decisions such as charge termination and power-off thresholds.
