About The Position

Vantage Elevation is seeking an experienced Embedded Software Engineer IV to join their Elevator Controls team in Sacramento, California. This senior-level individual contributor role focuses on the design, development, modification, testing, and maintenance of embedded software for elevator control systems. The engineer will work autonomously on advanced technical projects, troubleshoot complex software and hardware issues, and provide technical leadership across product development, testing, manufacturing, and field support.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
7+ years of experience in real-time embedded software or firmware engineering
Strong embedded firmware development experience with deep knowledge of embedded software systems and related programming
Strong proficiency in C and C++
Experience working with real-time operating systems
Strong understanding of the interaction between embedded software and underlying hardware
Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex software, firmware, and hardware-related issues
Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, design standards, architecture, and development best practices
Experience performing and reviewing software testing to ensure sufficient coverage and quality
Ability to perform technical and design reviews and provide constructive guidance to other engineers
Ability to work autonomously on advanced and complex technical projects while collaborating effectively across functional teams
Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance on difficult or high-visibility projects and issues
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and structured problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

Experience with low-level device drivers highly desirable
Experience with IAR ARM development highly desirable
Experience with scripting and development tools such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Cygwin, and Make highly desirable
Experience with revision control systems such as Git or Subversion
Knowledge of electrical systems and general board-level design
Elevator industry experience and knowledge of elevator systems, elevator control equipment, and applicable elevator codes highly preferred

Responsibilities

Designing, developing, modifying, and maintaining embedded software supporting the operation of elevator control systems
Working autonomously on advanced and complex technical projects requiring significant software engineering and industry knowledge
Troubleshooting and debugging complex new and existing electronic hardware, firmware, and software systems
Resolving challenging technical issues independently using structured and methodical troubleshooting practices
Developing embedded software in C and C++ and utilizing additional programming or scripting languages as required
Designing and supporting low-level software and device-driver functionality
Performing functionality, performance, integration, and validation testing for new and modified software
Reviewing testing approaches and providing guidance to ensure appropriate test coverage and quality
Performing technical and design reviews to ensure software changes are technically sound and align with established design standards, best practices, and product architecture
Reviewing and challenging product designs to identify technical risks, improve solutions, and ensure alignment with business and product objectives
Supporting the definition and implementation of product architecture and ensuring architectural requirements are understood and properly implemented by the development team
Supporting the development and implementation of technical roadmaps based on both technical and business needs
Working closely with Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Field Support, Product, and other cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle
Proactively engaging with field and manufacturing teams to own and drive resolution of reported product issues
Providing additional technical oversight and guidance on difficult, high-visibility, or business-critical issues
Leading or providing technical leadership on cross-functional projects as needed
Providing technical guidance, mentoring, and support to less experienced engineers
Evaluating new technologies and identifying opportunities to apply them to Vantage products and engineering processes
Developing and maintaining a strong understanding of Vantage products, elevator systems, and applicable A17, EN, BS, and related elevator codes
Supporting management and technical leadership with input on product, software, and elevator-domain matters
Performing other related engineering duties and projects as required
