About The Position

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded firmware for flight and ground systems. You will implement drivers and interfaces for various sensors and communication buses, contribute to flight software including state machines and control logic, and support firmware integration with avionics hardware. The position involves debugging hardware/software issues using lab equipment and supporting system-level testing. You will also produce well-structured firmware modules, driver implementations, and control logic, along with delivering design documentation and maintaining clear records of firmware architecture and testing outcomes. Additionally, you will support improvements to development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and coding standards to ensure reliable software releases. The impact of this role includes delivering reliable flight software for safe vehicle operation, translating requirements into validated firmware, ensuring high-quality integration, establishing strong software development practices, identifying and mitigating risks, maintaining ownership of embedded software functionality, and contributing to system-level testing activities.

  • B.S. in electrical engineering, computer science or related field
  • 4+ years of experience in embedded firmware or embedded systems development
  • Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience working with microcontrollers, microprocessors and/or FPGAs
  • Familiarity with RTOS concepts or bare-metal development
  • Experience interfacing with hardware and reading schematics
  • Understanding of common embedded communication protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, UART, Ethernet)
  • Experience debugging embedded systems at the hardware/software boundary
  • Ability to learn new tools, systems, and domains as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in high-growth, startup, or technically complex environments
  • Familiarity with flight software architectures or safety-critical systems
  • Experience with bootloaders or firmware update systems
