About The Position

Convergint is currently recruiting for an Embedded Security Systems Technician to join our team in Fort McMurray. As an Embedded Security Technician, you will be responsible for providing customer and technical support for installed systems that may be moderately complex. Services and supports existing customer by responding to service calls, carrying out Customer Support Programs and small projects business. Scope of work includes technical assistance, systems checkout of new and existing installations, troubleshooting and maintenance and repair routines associated with installed Security Systems and the installation of small or less complex projects. This is a FIFO role with a 14/14 shift.

Requirements

  • Strong customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
  • Valid and clean driver’s license.
  • Must be a self-starter and work well with minimal supervision.
  • Travel to and on jobsites is required. Valid driver’s license required.
  • Some experience with server and computer administration
  • Understanding of electronic security network infrastructure and architecture
  • IP address management and deployment
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment with limited instruction.
  • Strong communication skills and relentless attention to detail
  • An analytical mind that can solve complex issues while remaining data informed.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Hands-on security systems installation, service, and maintenance
  • Experience with security systems troubleshooting.
  • Must be a self-starter and work well without direct supervision.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g. works with a variety of hand and power tools such as drill, screwdriver, wire stripper, hacksaw, crimper) and ability to read blueprints and drawings; solid math skills (for some positions, this may include calculating area, velocity, resistance, voltage, etc.)
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Diploma in Electronics preferred.
  • Relevant trade experience preferred.
  • Three to five years of previous, relevant field experience in the electronic security industry is essential.
  • In depth experience in a security role, which includes some combination of the management of electronic security technology, project management, and providing security systems support in a large-scale environment.
  • Solid experience with Windows and Linux-based server and computer systems
  • Solid experience with server and computer administration

Responsibilities

  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of security systems and equipment. Colleague is key interface for the provision of technical support and training for the customer and as such is accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction. Refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.
  • Implement, maintain, audit, and improve electronic security technology including security systems, servers, software, and systems integration, as well as communication and intelligence platforms.
  • Support the administration and documentation of electronic security technology, as well as providing training and support.
  • Executes all work in accordance with Provincial, local regulations, general best practices as well as company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Advises supervisor regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards as well as suggestions for product improvements.
  • Executes many of the technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support etc..
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates to appropriate parties and assist in the development and implementation of strategies to minimize impact and to control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Interact with third-party companies and vendors with regards to electronic security technology projects, service, and maintenance.
  • Acts as “our customer’s best service provider” at all times thereby ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Communicates with and works with the other team members consistently to improve overall operations of the Convergint Technology Center, and company.
  • Keeps up to date and informed on all company policies.
  • Presents a professional image of Convergint at all times in appearance and behaviour.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
