About The Position

Design and implementation of embedded electronics and robotics systems for the Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL). This role involves designing and implementing embedded electronics hardware, developing real-time signal processing algorithms and system control logic, robotics electrical system design, creating supporting documentation, participating in data collection and analysis, and supporting field installations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or other related engineering or science field.
  • Experience in designing digital and analog electronics hardware and developing software applications in an embedded environment.
  • Hands-on electronics experience such as soldering and wiring assembly and the use of common electrical test equipment.
  • Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized, capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks, and managing their time.
  • This position will require attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgement, and good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients.
  • Applicant must be able to work under pressure and accept supervision with regular and punctual attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience in the development, implementation, and field testing of digital signal processing algorithms and embedded systems for sonar applications.
  • Experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical hardware for the control and operation of compact battery-operated systems using both analog and digital circuitry.
  • Experience with robotics and electro-mechanical system hardware including motors, actuators, and various sensors.
  • Experience designing and coordinating the development of entire systems.
  • Experience with embedded programmable logic and processors such as MSP430s, DSPs, FPGAs, Raspberry Pis, and NVIDIA Jetsons.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAD tools and IDEs including SPICE, KiCad, PADS, SolidWorks, Visual Studio, STM32CubeIDE, and Code Composer Studio.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in any of the following: C, C++, Assembly, Java, Linux, real time operating systems, version control systems, defect tracking systems, unit testing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: acoustics, signal processing, detection theory, pattern recognition and classification, image processing, radio communications.
  • Prior work experience in professional or research-oriented electrical hardware and software development.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded electronics hardware containing microcontrollers, A/D converters, power supplies, etc.; including schematics, board layout, fabrication, validation, system integration, and troubleshooting. This hardware will support sonar, radio, and navigation system projects
  • Design, develop, and test real-time signal processing algorithms and system control logic on embedded hardware
  • Robotics electrical system design, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Create supporting documentation for hardware and software designed to support ATL projects
  • Participate in data collection exercises, data management, and data analysis
  • Support the installation and testing of equipment in field locations
  • Other related functions as assigned.
