About The Position

Teledyne FLIR is searching for an experienced Embedded Design Engineer with a proven track record of system-level PCB design and bring-up, with successful projects that include high-speed digital signals, on-board power supply design, including HV sensor biasing circuitry, analog to digital conversion, real time digital signal processing, RF modules (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GNSS) and sensor signal conditioning. For our next generation Teledyne FLIR products, this position will also require excellence in a variety of related embedded disciplines including some bare metal MCU firmware, FPGA code, digital signal processing, implementing LCD displays, and testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required (ideally in Electrical Engineering), Master’s Degree and/or strong mathematical background a plus.
  • 5+ years of system-level hardware design experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with FPGA development and related testing methodologies, Actel/Microsemi development environment is a plus.
  • Proficiency with at least one professional PCB design tool (Altium, OrCad, Allegro, PADS, etc.), knowledge of Altium is preferred.
  • Advanced development skills in C, C++, Verilog, or VHDL.
  • Hands-on experience with modern lab equipment for general debugging, SI analysis, EMI, and EMC testing (oscilloscopes, logic- and spectrum analyzers, etc.).
  • Soldering/de-soldering skills with SMD components.
  • Understanding of typical embedded digital communication protocols UART, SPI, I2C, SWD, JTAG, etc.
  • Basic Linux usage knowledge with Bash and Python scripting skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills.
  • Learning/interested mindset with a team player attitude is required.
  • Able and willing to travel 10% (primarily domestic) to visit tradeshows, training events, and conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • RF design background (e. g. RADAR) will be a plus.
  • Experience with USB C, Bluetooth Low Energy, and WiFi a plus
  • Experience with secure system design, embedded RTOS and Linux driver development a plus.
  • Understanding of version control systems, bug tracking, and continuous integration workflows a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design system hardware with SOMs, MCUs, FPGAs, ADCs, and digital interfaces (schematic capture and layout design).
  • Perform hardware bring-up, inspection, and signal integrity analysis.
  • Develop FPGA code and some MCU code.
  • Contribute to various automated test setups used in production.
  • Participate in the analysis of raw sensor data and apply Teledyne FLIR proprietary real time digital signal processing algorithms; first assist then take the lead in their improvement.
  • Design against standards (ANSI, FCC/CE, IEEE, etc.) and support agency testing.
