Eaton is seeking a lead power and embedded electronics design engineer for its Power Electronics (PE) and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE). Eaton’s PE and Battery CoE accelerate the company’s growth through the development of technology platforms and common hardware building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products. This individual will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing analog, digital, and power circuits, including embedded electronic circuits with DSP/micro-processor/FPGA, sensor interfaces, communication cards, gate drivers, and SMPS. The individual will be a member of the global PE and Battery CoE and report to the Power Electronics HW manager. Up to 10% travel domestically and internationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 6 years of engineering experience in designing and developing analog, digital, and power circuits, including embedded electronics circuits, sensor interface, communication cards, gate drivers, and SMPS
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in circuit modeling and simulation with tools such as SPICE or Simplis
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with analog, digital, and power circuits development and testing

Nice To Haves

  • PCB layout experience and knowledge of PCB assembly process
  • Experience in designing electronics with thermal and reliability consideration (e.g., electronic simulation for DfR and DfM or worst-case analysis)
  • Experience in designing high-speed electronics
  • Experience with SI and PI analysis tools for high-speed designs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes
  • Design for Six Sigma certification
  • Familiar with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, power supplies, and other standard EE lab equipment

Responsibilities

  • Leads electronics circuit design and development activities and demonstrates start-finish ownership for the assigned projects and tasks
  • Performs design, modeling, simulation, and implementation of analog, digital, and power circuits including embedded electronics circuits with DSP/micro-processor/FPGA, sensor interfaces, communication cards, etc.
  • Performs analog, digital, and power circuit functional testing
  • Develops the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs
  • Creates technical reports and presentations
  • Builds and measures test circuits. Analyzes data to improve/optimize the designs
  • Collaborates with mechanical, thermal, and firmware engineers to successfully develop and validate the designs
  • Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability
