About The Position

This position is in the Center for Quantitative Cell Imaging (CQCI) and is responsible for all operational aspects of the CQCI 3D Cell Electron Microscopy Core Facility. Some technical duties include: training new users, providing technical consultations about the use of the facility to answer research questions, operating the instruments for users, preparing samples for users, maintaining the equipment, performing outreach on behalf of the facility, and recruiting additional facility users. This position is also responsible for managing business aspects of the facility including ongoing development of the Core's business plan and its implementation.

Requirements

  • Qualified applicants must have a minimum of one year of experience in Electron Microscopy.
  • Bachelor's Degree

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D in a biological discipline.
  • Experience in a core/service facility and/or with EM of biological samples.
  • Experience using/processing samples with a high-pressure freezer a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of grant proposals and applicable documentation
  • Leads the operations and/or management of a facility
  • Answers questions and provides technical information regarding instrumentation to staff, researchers, clients, and students
  • Assembles data and/or provides input for reports of design status and/or technical research for professional organizations, government/sponsors review boards, and/or design reviews
  • Supports troubleshooting efforts to define and resolve problems
  • Designs, plans, and performs preventative and reactive maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal and safe operation
  • Develops, integrates, tests, modifies, and may design sophisticated scientific equipment to support research/clinical initiatives and unit directives
  • Facilitates the billing process
  • Supports project planning and coordination
  • Provides technical expertise to staff, researchers, clients, and students in the installation and use of equipment and instruments, exercising discretion and independent judgment to meet unit goals
  • Investigates new research processes and technology solutions in collaboration with research/clinical staff, students, and clients
