About The Position

English Learner Program Teachers (ELPTs) are nominated by principals to serve as teacher leaders supporting school leadership in the administration of the English Learner (EL) program. ELPTs lead professional development for teachers on English Language Development (ELD) and instruction for ELs, and engage parents of ELs in their children's education. Schools with 20 or more ELs receive supplemental positions (0.5-2.0 FTE) for the ELPT, with at least 50% of the position dedicated to ELPT coordination duties (100% in schools with 250+ ELs). In schools with 19 or fewer ELs, teachers have the option to accept the ELPT role, compensated with a stipend. ELPTs participate in quarterly training from OLCE, which includes professional development sessions and tools for high-quality instruction for English learners. They then provide these professional development opportunities to preK-12 grade teachers at their school during the school day.
