The position of Teacher – English as a Second Language is for the purpose/s of providing instruction to students whose first language is not English, so that they might become proficient in English as quickly as possible. This role involves assessing student language proficiency, designing and implementing service delivery models, providing instruction, and serving as a resource to staff on curriculum adaptations. The teacher will also conduct inservice training, maintain records of LEP students, and communicate with various stakeholders including parents and administrators. Planning and implementing a program of study aligned with state and district goals, guiding the learning process, and employing appropriate instructional methods are key responsibilities. Collaboration with school personnel and parents is essential for improving ESL student performance. The role also includes preparing teaching materials and reports, demonstrating a professional attitude, attending staff meetings, and meeting state standards for competent and ethical performance. Other duties include directing educational assistant activities, upholding school rules and policies, assisting in district-wide ESL program planning, maintaining accurate records, and participating in various meetings.
