About The Position

The job of Paraprofessional-ELL is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition from their native language; administering tests; performing classroom clerical tasks and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance in communications with non-English speaking persons.

Requirements

  • Job related experience is required.
  • Targeted job-related education that meets organization’s prerequisite requirements.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios.
  • Ability to read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others.
  • Ability to understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation in both English and Second Language.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Administers tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the classroom.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, in the classroom or outside the classroom, with lesson assignments for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assessing understanding in English.
  • Implements, under the supervision of the teacher, instructional programs, and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Translates verbal and written communication(s), as needed, or assigned, for the purpose of assisting students, teachers, and parents in communicating.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
