About The Position

The Eligibility Technician PT, under general supervision, is responsible for answering questions and gathering information by telephone or in person from families applying for assistance. This person will prescreen applicants; add families to the waiting list of the appropriate income maintenance program; and schedule appointments. This person will be responsible for keying data in case files, data entry into an automated system, and updating demographic data for families or individuals. Employees must be able to pay attention to detail and have good computer skills. The ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to explain program guidelines and provide education on the program. Advise clients of other agency programs and services. Maintain effective working relationships with peers and clients. Provide excellent customer service internal and external. Employees in this position could support the Subsidized Childcare Assistance, FNS, or Medicaid and/or the Work Force Unit and Crisis Assessment Unit. This is a seasonal job from November until April and is a 40 per week job Monday -Friday 8a-5p. POSITION SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: Crisis Assessment -Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP): Responds to questions from applicants. Accepts LIEAP applications via phone, fax, email, EPASS and in person. Schedules LIEAP appointments with clients when needed. Interviews applicants applying for LIEAP via telephone or in person and processes applications within the allowable programmatic timeframes. Seasonal position from November through April (funding permitting), 40 hours per week Monday-Friday.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Six (6) months public contact experience.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to explain program guidelines and provide education on the program.
  • Advise clients of other agency programs and services.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with peers and clients.
  • Provide excellent customer service internal and external.
  • Proficiency in NC FAST.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of paraprofessional or clerical public contact experience.

Responsibilities

  • Making changes to client cases, including transferring cases, updating addresses and phone numbers, changing Primary Care Providers, updating persons page information, and documenting contact changes.
  • Setting up appointments for clients based on Hearing Officer Schedules.
  • Reserving meeting rooms.
  • Preparing documents for hearing.
  • Assisting the Hearing Officer and caseworkers as needed.
  • Gathering information through the interview process for the purpose of determining applicant/client eligibility as well as to inform the client of their rights and obligations as prescribed under program policies.
  • Referring to eligibility manuals and utilizing agency procedural guidelines in accomplishing the work.
  • Providing information to clients on program requirements based upon the information provided in the unit's manual.
  • Collecting, processing, scanning, and distributing incoming mail and faxes.
  • Developing and maintaining cooperative and courteous relationships with division employees, staffers and managers in other divisions, representatives from organizations, and the general public so as to maintain good will toward the division and project a good division image.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.
