About The Position

Performs entry level eligibility determination for public assistance programs, while receiving on the job training. Training includes instruction on applicable federal and state laws, county rules, and required computer systems. Eligibility programs include Old Age Pension, Aid to the Needy Disabled, Colorado Works, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), LEAP and/or Child Care and other programs as needed. Full performance of the essential functions is preparation for the next level in the Eligibility Technician career ladder; training is generally completed after a period of one year. There are three levels in the Eligibility Technician career ladder, this position is the first level in the series.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in customer service with a demonstrated ability to use and learn new business technologies.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to utilize the technology required of the position and demonstrates a willingness to learn new technologies as required to assist the County in providing exceptional services, innovation, and work efficiencies.
  • Proficient in communication, and able to communicate using the English language, including written, verbal, or other communication channels as required by the position.
  • Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and office equipment, demonstrating fine motor skills for typing, clicking, and manipulating documents.
  • Clear vision for reading printed and on-screen materials, including text, graphics, and data, and for viewing computer monitors for extended periods.
  • Adequate hearing to engage in conversations, respond to telephone calls, and interact with colleagues in a typical office environment.
  • Maintain the ability to maintain focus, productivity, and attention to detail while working at a desk for standard office hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual – Have the ability to speak, read, and write English and Spanish.
  • Previous experience in a human service-related position.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in training and instruction.
  • Under close supervision, assists in determining financial eligibility for public assistance programs.
  • Interviews clients and reviews applications for eligibility programs eligibility.
  • Inputs data into State CBMS system for new cases and information changes to current cases such as new addresses, phone numbers, birth of children, loss of family member, age limitations for certain programs and addition of household members.
  • Studies and learns the applicable rules and regulations.
  • Develops skill in interpretation and application of required rules for efficient application processes.
  • Develops skills in client interactions customer service focused client interactions which include home visits, client interviews, and appropriate business communications such as phone calls, emailing, and mailing of forms.
  • Provides exceptional customer services and ensures that client-based tasks, community questions, or provider requests are completed in a timely manner.
  • Competes required administrative tasks such as filing, paperwork completion checklists, and organization of cases in appropriate system.
