About The Position

The Elevator Operator 2 can start and operate all functions of the elevator without supervision. Can perform temperature readings and bin measurements accurately. Keep current grain identities on whiteboards and relay information to the Manager as needed. Be able to make minimal repairs and perform lubrication of moving part and alignments of belts, roller, legs and other moving parts. Must follow safety protocols and use proper safety equipment as needed. Be able to grade grain samples and apply simple math. Be able to provide maximum service to members and patrons.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer operation skills.
  • Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job related education requirements or opportunities.
  • Class C Driver’s License
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling.

Responsibilities

  • Dumps grain and/or loads railcars or trucks, clean up grain spills
  • Keeps commodity charts indicating location and contents of storage tanks
  • Collects grain samples and records results
  • Inspects grain for insects, moisture, and foreign material while unloading grain trucks
  • Responsible for maintaining clean facilities of elevator and complying with all state and federal regulations pertaining to a safe workplace, housekeeping, and all activities that require regulation compliance
  • Performs required preventative maintenance to ensure PM reports are turned in on time
  • Reads thermometers on control panel to ascertain grain temperatures at various levels in storage tanks in a timely manner, meaning often, and after bins are filled
  • Maintains perpetual inventory on grains, checks grain quality and/or condition of grain and prevents mixing of grain
  • Continually maintains facility cleanliness within standards set by insurance company, OSHA, and safety coordinator
  • Starts conveyors, selects flow pipes, sets trippers, and selects storage tanks to convey grain into storage or to loading department
  • Works with government or government appointed scale inspectors and grain examiners
  • Performs or directs routine maintenance and repair on all elevator and fertilizer equipment
  • Actively promotes use of cooperative’s grain facilities to customers
  • Fills anhydrous ammonia tanks and keeps accurate inventory and records
  • Maintains yards and mows grass
  • Assists customers in loading purchases, locking and unlocking facilities
  • Unload, load and operate grain scale
  • Ensure good quality grain by conducting monthly facility inspections, monitoring bin temperature and moisture, keeping the elevator clean and performing preventative maintenance
  • Complete all required paperwork including PM reports, OSHA and safety inspection forms
  • Provide assistance with stocking merchandise, advertising and inventory control
  • Assist customer with sales, checkout and promoting products; responsible for being knowledgeable on products and services
  • Work cooperatively with other locations to help ensure company goals are met
  • Perform repairs and/or maintenance on vehicles as qualified; coordinate with a qualified technician as needed
  • Provides excellent customer service by managing difficult or emotional situations; responding promptly to customer needs, resolving questions, complaints and concerns immediately and meeting commitments
  • Effectively communicates by verbal and written means with customers, employees and management
  • Attends safety and training meetings
  • Maintains and promotes safety awareness; follows safety policies, procedures and reporting requirements
  • Understand and comply with all state and federal regulations
  • Present a clean and professional appearance
