This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. This is a 40 hour work schedule, Monday-Friday 7:00 AM - 03:30 PM. Purpose To perform elevator inspection as required by federal, state and local statutes and requirements.

Requirements

  • Diploma (high school) or GED.
  • Seven years of journey level experience in the installation and maintenance of elevators and escalators.
  • Required State of Texas license as an Elevator Inspector and certification as QEI-1 Elevator Inspector from an accredited organization or the ability to obtain a license/certification within one year.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years experience performing jurisdictional inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and certifies elevator equipment, platform lifts, and escalators for safe operating conditions, proper installations, and the need for future modifications that are applicable within federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Documents all findings and advises management or service coordinator on the recommended actions and solutions.
  • Files the records and reports with the appropriate government agency.
  • Provides follow-up verification for repair and maintenance work that has been performed.
  • Witnesses and certifies acceptance inspections and tests on all newly constructed and renovated elevators to the applicable codes.
  • Maintains a database for elevator equipment, platform lifts, and escalators.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a preventative maintenance program for elevators and auxiliary equipment.
  • Participates in developing specifications for new construction and remodeling projects.
  • Provides assistance in budget projections.
  • Performs on-site maintenance audits.
  • Interprets and evaluates data from remote monitoring systems.
  • Reviews and evaluates elevator equipment performance history.
  • Attends meetings with vendors to evaluate elevator equipment.
  • Attends all meetings and/or certification seminars to maintain credentials as an American Society of Mechanical Engineers Qualified Elevator Inspector (ASME QEI-1 certification) and Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR) state Elevator Inspector License.
  • Drives UT vehicle.
  • Maintain a State of Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record required by UT System Policy UTS157.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety practices of the trade.
  • Ability to read architectural, installation, and electrical drawings, including hoist ways and machine room layouts and details related to the design and construction of equipment as specified in ASME A17.1, A17.5, A18.1, QEI-1, NFPA 70, NFPA 13, and the building codes.
