About The Position

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for teaching children and advancing their educational journey. This role involves maintaining an orderly learning atmosphere, employing various instructional techniques, and managing allotted learning time to maximize student achievement. The teacher will adhere to the adopted county and school curriculum, develop lesson plans, and provide individualized instruction to meet the needs of each pupil. Additionally, the teacher will participate in professional development, assist in the selection of instructional materials, and work cooperatively with administration and colleagues. Responsibilities include assisting with student identification for supplemental programs, addressing factors contributing to low academic performance, counseling students, evaluating student progress, and administering standardized tests. The teacher will utilize effective teaching strategies, communicate instructional expectations to students, and maintain open communication with parents regarding student progress. Creating a safe and effective classroom environment, assisting in policy implementation, and taking precautions to protect students and property are also key duties. The role involves maintaining inventories, sharing school duties, supervising students, participating in school-based decision-making, supporting school activities, attending faculty meetings, ensuring student record confidentiality, maintaining professional conduct, and performing related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Teach children and advance their educational life.
  • Keep accurate records of lesson plans, student grades, reports to parents, attendance, and inventories.
  • Maintain an orderly learning atmosphere and keep the Principal informed of program activities and problems.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques with a priority on teaching basic academic skills.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Teach the adopted county and school curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, appropriate tasks, and provide individualized and small group instruction.
  • Take an active part in the professional development of the school and the district.
  • Assist in the selection of books, software, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Work cooperatively with the administration, other teachers, support personnel, and the SBDM Council.
  • Assist resource teachers, Title I teachers, gifted education teachers, and other teachers/coordinators in the identification process of students for supplemental educational programs.
  • Determine factors contributing to low academic performance and make necessary referrals for specialized help.
  • Counsel and evaluate students, providing guidance for their welfare, self-esteem, and educational development.
  • Evaluate student progress on a regular basis and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with the district’s testing program.
  • Utilize teaching strategies that incorporate activities to enhance performance events and open-response assessments.
  • Communicate with students on instructional expectations and their progress.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school’s program.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes, including time outside the instructional day.
  • Create a safe, disciplined, and effective classroom environment for learning.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintain order.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain proper inventories of non-expendable school supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Share duties of the school as assigned by the Principal, and supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Participate in school-based decision making.
  • Support or participate in school-wide student activities and social events.
  • Attend all regular and special called faculty meetings, unless excused by the Principal, and serve on staff committees.
  • Ensure that student records and information are kept confidential.
  • Refrain from making any public comment about any student that might be considered critical or derogatory.
  • Maintain the highest professional standards in personal conduct.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Perform related duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
