About The Position

The Classroom Teacher is responsible for creating a faith-filled, nurturing, and academically enriching classroom environment tailored specifically to first-grade students. The teacher plans and delivers instruction that supports early literacy, numeracy, and foundational learning skills while integrating Catholic values and teachings into daily classroom life. This role supports the mission of Catholic education by fostering students’ spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social growth during this critical early elementary year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a related field required.
  • Valid teaching certification (state and/or diocesan) required or in progress.
  • Practicing Catholic strongly preferred; must support and be committed to the mission and values of Catholic education.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills appropriate for young learners.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly with early elementary or 1st grade students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver developmentally appropriate instruction for in religion, reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
  • Provide structured instruction focused on early literacy, phonics, handwriting, number sense, and foundational academic skills.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings, Gospel values, and prayer into daily lessons, routines, and classroom activities.
  • Create a nurturing, engaging, and well-managed classroom environment that supports young learners’ academic and social development.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varied learning needs and abilities.
  • Foster positive behavior, responsibility, and respect consistent with Catholic values.
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction to support student growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and school activities.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, Mass, and other school-related activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and support staff to support student success and spiritual formation.
