About The Position

This role is for an Elementary Teacher who will serve as a Multisensory Therapeutic Teacher. The primary goal is to promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of assigned students. The teacher will utilize available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to foster student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge of appropriate developmental practices for young children. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, managing the classroom environment, developing and implementing classroom management techniques, and planning weekly lessons. The teacher is expected to be punctual, notify administration of absences, and provide adequate plans for substitutes. A thorough understanding of system methods, programs, curriculum guides, and available resources is essential. The role involves using various diagnostic and placement methods, exhibiting self-control, providing for individual differences, and continually evaluating student progress. Cooperation with school-based and central office personnel, and encouraging parent involvement are also crucial. Professional growth through inservice training and faculty meetings is expected, along with adherence to Louisiana laws concerning student education, health, safety, and welfare. The teacher will assist in developing and implementing quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools and participate in the evaluation process, performing other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Must be able to effectively communicate English both orally and in writing.
  • Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system.
  • Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required.
  • Must be able to operate classroom equipment.
  • Must be able to physically transfer, restrain or position special education students as required.
  • Must be able to plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
  • Must keep accurate, up-to-date written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to comply with state and parish regulations.
  • Must be able to utilize effective classroom management techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the mental, physical, emotional and social growth of any student assigned.
  • Use available instructional materials and a variety of techniques in providing opportunities for student achievement and development.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children.
  • Keep accurate, neat records including class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, and permanent folders.
  • Maintain an attractive classroom, reporting unsafe conditions when repairs are needed.
  • Develop and implement proper classroom management techniques.
  • Complete reports, assignments and records in a timely fashion.
  • Collects lunch and/or activity monies as may be necessary.
  • Plan and prepare for classes, submitting lesson plans weekly.
  • Report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations.
  • Report promptly for all assigned duties.
  • Notify the principal or designated person of impending absence.
  • Supply substitutes with adequate plans and materials.
  • Maintain properly the books and equipment assigned to the class.
  • Become knowledgeable about methods, programs, curriculum guides, procedure bulletins, and available resources in the system.
  • Use a variety of methods for diagnosis and/or placement purposes.
  • Exhibit self-control and decorum for student emulation.
  • Provide for individual differences.
  • Continually evaluate student progress and plan with student needs in mind.
  • Cooperate with school-based and central office personnel.
  • Encourage parent to be informed of the student's progress and needs.
  • Demonstrate evidence of professional growth, participate in inservice training and contribute to faculty meetings and/or faculty studies.
  • Conform to Louisiana laws concerning the education, health, safety and welfare of assigned students.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools.
  • Plan for and actively participate in the evaluation process.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the principal.
