About The Position

Under the direction of the Principal and/or Designee, the teacher shall be the educational leader in their classroom and shall be responsible for the education of the youth placed in their charge. This role involves creating a favorable learning environment, improving instruction, acting as a guidance teacher, and fostering communication between child, parent, and teacher. The teacher is expected to pursue professional development, adhere to federal guidelines for instruction, and cooperate with colleagues on academic matters and problem-solving. Adjusting educational practices to meet individual student needs and utilizing specialists when necessary are key responsibilities. The role also includes administering and interpreting standardized tests, attending meetings, participating in professional organizations, and contributing to positive community relations. Identifying and nurturing student talents, staying current with educational practices, and assisting with school administrative tasks like inventories and budgets are also part of the role. Promoting good health habits for self and students, cooperating with special teachers, and participating in extracurricular activities are expected. The teacher will have general supervision of the classroom and cooperate with the principal in supervision elsewhere as needed, while also maintaining school records and enforcing school rules and fire drill requirements. Daily attention to safety education is also a requirement.

  • Previous coaching experience, facility with technology and knowledge of K-12 instructional technology are highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Be the educational leader in his/her classroom and he/she must demonstrate the necessary skills to create an atmosphere and environment favorable to learning and development.
  • Be responsible for the improvement and enrichment of instruction in the classroom.
  • At all times be a guidance teacher.
  • Encourage child-parent-teacher communication in order to better promote instruction.
  • Endeavor to attain the highest professional development that is possible for him/herself through a continuing program of teacher education.
  • Conscientiously apply him/herself in attempting to follow the federal guidelines adopted by the Department in regard to methods of instruction.
  • Cooperate with the principal, department head, and his/her fellow teachers in all academic matters endeavoring at all times to contribute to the solution of education problem.
  • After identifying individual differences, strive to adjust his/her educational practices to meet these individual differences and resultant needs, and he/she shall call on a specialist through his/her principal or department head when help is desired.
  • Administer mental ability tests, achievement tests and all other department authorized tests in a prescribed and standardized manner.
  • Exercise professional discretion in regard to the results of said tests and use the results in a continued effort to improve his/her classroom instruction of the pupils tested.
  • Work in a continuous effort to improve the testing program by making personal observations, constructive criticisms and suggestions for the improvement of said program to his/her immediate superior.
  • Attend all meetings called by his/her principal and department head and make every effort to contribute to the discussions at these meetings.
  • Be associated with professional organizations related to his/her specific areas of instruction or interest.
  • Cooperate, with the school, in all programs that will contribute to good public relations within his/her community.
  • Identify as early as possible unusual talents in his/her classroom and do all he/she can to encourage these talents.
  • Keep him/herself abreast of all general educational practices in all grades (K-12) in the school system.
  • Make every effort to cooperate with the school principal in completing inventories, making budgets, library orderings and any and all other reports peculiar to his/her particular school.
  • Cultivate and promote good health habits – physical, mental and emotional – for him/herself and his/her students.
  • Cooperate with all special teachers in their programs of physical education, art and music.
  • Encourage and participate when necessary in extracurricular activities designed to promote and broaden the experiences provided for the students.
  • Have general supervision of his/her classroom and he/she shall cooperate with the principal in providing supervision at any other place deemed necessary.
  • Cooperate with the principal in keeping all prescribed school records.
  • Fulfill all fire drill requirements issued by the principal.
  • See that all rules and regulations relating to school functions are enforced.
  • Give daily attention to the safety education of his/her pupils.
