About The Position

Provide specialized services to gifted students. Provide identified gifted students with a curriculum that provides an array of challenging learning experiences based on a continuum of learning that includes creative and critical thinking, research skills, and self-directed learning. Student learning experiences include project-based learning opportunities, the development of advanced level products using the engineering design process, and focused independent study units.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Two years’ experience teaching gifted students within the general education classroom
  • Completion of GT qualification requirements (30 hour foundational and annual updates required)
  • Proven ability to work with students, parents, peers, and superiors
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and needs of gifted students
  • Ability to capitalize on students’ interests so as to encourage students to become independent learners while also making learning meaningful and relevant
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and learning opportunities for gifted children
  • General knowledge of the VISD Gifted and Talented identification and assessment processes
  • An understanding of and sensitivity for the various cultural needs of the students of the district
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
