The teacher will promote the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of any student assigned. This role involves using available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development, demonstrating knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children. The teacher will maintain accurate records, an attractive and safe classroom, and implement proper classroom management techniques. Responsibilities include completing reports, assignments, and records in a timely fashion, collecting monies as necessary, and planning and preparing for classes by submitting lesson plans weekly. The teacher must report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations and duties, notify the principal of impending absence, and supply substitutes with adequate plans and materials. Maintaining assigned books and equipment, becoming knowledgeable about system methods, programs, and resources, and using a variety of diagnostic and placement methods are also key. The role requires exhibiting self-control, providing for individual differences, continually evaluating student progress, and cooperating with school and central office personnel. Encouraging parent involvement in student progress and needs, demonstrating professional growth through inservice training and faculty participation, and conforming to Louisiana laws are essential. The teacher will assist in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools, plan for and participate in the evaluation process, and perform all other duties assigned by the principal.
