About The Position

Kenowa Hills Public Schools is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and student-centered educator to serve as a .6 Elementary STEM Teacher at Alpine Elementary. The ideal candidate will create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that foster creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and curiosity while supporting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of all students. Successful candidates will demonstrate a passion for inquiry-based learning, strong classroom management, and the ability to create safe, engaging, and inclusive STEM learning environments for elementary learners.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an appropriate endorsement in Elementary Education (K–5 all subjects) or a related STEM field
  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, STEM Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver inquiry-based, hands-on learning experiences aligned with Michigan Science Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Knowledge of engineering design processes, problem-based learning (PBL), and scientific inquiry
  • Experience integrating technology and digital tools (coding, robotics, makerspace equipment, design software) into classroom instruction
  • Strong classroom management skills that promote collaboration, creativity, and student ownership of learning
  • Commitment to equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive instructional practices
  • Willingness to participate in district-provided training opportunities, including CPI, CPR/First Aid, and district instructional initiatives
  • Experience with or willingness to support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), small group instruction, and differentiated learning environments

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in STEM Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
  • Experience teaching or coaching STEM or STEAM integration across multiple grade levels (K–5)
  • Proficiency with coding platforms and 3D design tools (Tinkercad, CAD software, robotics systems, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate STEM across the curriculum, including literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies
  • Experience organizing schoolwide or community STEM events (family STEM nights, robotics clubs, innovation fairs, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) or other relationship-centered classroom practices

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, inquiry-based STEM instruction aligned with district and state standards
  • Design and facilitate hands-on learning experiences that promote creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving
  • Promote a personalized approach to education, including student voice, choice, project-based learning, and authentic learning experiences
  • Prepare course objectives and instructional plans aligned with district curriculum and instructional expectations
  • Utilize a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework and differentiated instructional practices to meet varying student needs
  • Facilitate instruction through whole group, small group, and collaborative learning structures
  • Establish and maintain classroom routines, expectations, and procedures consistent with district and building practices
  • Support and implement the tenets of Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) and relationship-centered classroom practices
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), including analyzing student data through the lens of the four PLC questions
  • Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and engagement and communicate progress with families and staff as needed
  • Create and maintain organized, safe, and engaging STEM learning environments
  • Utilize a variety of instructional tools, technology resources, media, coding platforms, robotics tools, and makerspace materials to maximize student engagement
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to enhance instruction and support interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Implement IEPs, 504 Plans, intervention strategies, and instructional accommodations with fidelity
  • Support students with varying academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and regulatory needs, including students who may demonstrate disruptive, dysregulated, unsafe, or escalated behaviors
  • Implement classroom management, de-escalation, and student support strategies aligned with district practices and training
  • Maintain safe and organized STEM learning environments, including appropriate supervision and use of materials, tools, equipment, and technology
  • Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences while maintaining appropriate safety procedures and classroom expectations
  • Maintain attendance and academic records as required by the district
  • Participate in professional learning and continuous improvement aligned with district initiatives and instructional practices
