About The Position

The Elementary SPED Teacher at BLUE RIDGE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT is responsible for instructing students in citizenship and basic subject matter, developing lesson plans, and providing individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student. This role involves creating a productive classroom environment, utilizing technology and instructional aids, and evaluating student progress. The teacher will communicate with parents, collaborate with other staff to address student issues, and maintain professional competence. Responsibilities also include supervising students, maintaining records, directing instructional assistants, and completing Special Education paperwork in compliance with state and federal laws. The position requires attendance at various Special Education meetings.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate
  • Must be “Appropriately Certified"
  • Valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
  • Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Designs learning activities relevant to the real world.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Effectively uses technology and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Teaches the assigned subject(s) in accordance with the District approved curriculum.
  • Evaluates each student’s progress in accordance with District Policies and Guidelines.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians the progress of each child.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Conducts duties in the area/subject/grade assigned under the supervision of the building administrator.
  • Maintains records on all students as required by the District.
  • Performs other related or unrelated tasks as assigned by the Principal.
  • Directs Instructional Assistants in work assignments as needed.
  • Completes and maintains all Special Education paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Attends required meetings as related to Special Education including but not limited to IEP Meetings, MET Meetings, Etc.
