About The Position

Highline Academy is seeking a dedicated Elementary Spanish Teacher for its Southeast Campus. This role is crucial in fostering a diverse community of youths and adults striving for academic, personal, and civic excellence. The Spanish Teacher will report directly to the campus principal and is expected to be a caring educator, a strong planner, skilled in classroom management, and an excellent collaborator with colleagues and families. The ideal candidate will possess good communication skills, a dedication to making a difference for each child, and a growth mindset. The position involves a 189-day work year, including student contact days, professional development, and parent conference days, with additional time expected for planning and professional growth outside these days. Teachers are expected on campus by 7:30 am and to stay until 3:30 pm, with extended hours until 4:30 pm on Fridays for early release days followed by teacher PD or planning meetings. Two weeks of professional development are also required each summer before school begins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Teaching experience appropriate to the assignment

  • Highly qualified per No Child Left Behind (NCLB) specifications
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Collaborate with grade level peers to provide rigorous and engaging class time.
  • Use data to monitor student learning, make decisions about grouping, and determine next steps in lesson planning.
  • Meet in data teams and reflect upon student progress and support other teachers in interpreting their data.
  • Meet weekly with their coach to deepen the impact of their instruction.
  • Teach the classes, groups, or programs as assigned.
  • Help each other with lesson and unit planning and may divide that work up as they see fit as a team.
  • Enter attendance each day into IC and enter grades into the school learning management system based on standards aligned assessments.
  • Provide Teaching Assistant with appropriate assignments for students and tasks in the classroom and guidance for how to work well with all students.
  • Set the tone with their students each day and set up the community expectations for their students.
  • Build positive relationships with their students and hold them to high expectations.
  • Manage their classes with positive proactive systems and strong rituals and routines.
  • Seek out more information and support from other staff members if a student is not doing well either behaviorally or academically.
  • Serve as a point of contact for student-family communication.
  • Set up a website and/or send home a regular newsletter about the work of the class.
  • Help create community by engaging their parents through inviting them to participate as volunteers or in class events.
  • Build relationships with families through phone calls and both formal and informal meetings.
  • Work to ensure all families attend the student conferences held twice a year.
  • Show up for at least three evening or weekend events such as music performances for their grade level, the Cultural Fair and the Fall festival.
  • Help plan and lead at least one event for families during the year such as a parent education meeting or a student demonstration of learning.
  • Attend all professional development as assigned by their principal and participate with respect and attention.
  • Participate as a member of at least one network, school, board or parent group committee to support the ongoing work of improving our school and supporting school culture.
