About The Position

The Elementary Science Teacher (grades 1-6) supports a joyful, structured, and purposeful classroom culture where all students, regardless of ability, feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to succeed. The teacher delivers standards-aligned science instruction, facilitates meaningful learning experiences, and builds authentic relationships with students to foster their academic growth and social-emotional development. The Elementary Science Teacher plays a key role in implementing the school's vision for equity and excellence, ensuring all students achieve at high levels and embody the school's core values of practice, service, and purpose. The Elementary Science Teacher teaches science to students across 1st through 6th grade. The teaching schedule will rotate quarterly, requiring the teacher to adapt instruction and collaborate closely with multiple grade-level teams throughout the year. The Elementary Science Teacher reports to the Assistant Principal of Instruction and collaborates with the school team to create a positive and adaptive learning environment. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Science, or a related field required
  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification (or eligibility for certification)
  • At least one year of teaching experience preferred, with demonstrated success in improving student outcomes
  • Strong knowledge of elementary and/or middle school science content and pedagogy
  • Ability to effectively manage instruction across multiple grade levels
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

  • Master's Degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach daily science lessons aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum.
  • Teach science to students across grades First through 6th grade on a rotating quarterly schedule.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies, hands-on experiments, inquiry-based learning, and collaborative activities to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Foster scientific thinking, curiosity, problem-solving, and a love for science.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and track progress toward academic goals.
  • Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support to meet the needs of all learners, including students requiring additional challenges or interventions.
  • Support students in developing critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and academic vocabulary.
  • Celebrate student achievements and encourage perseverance.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment that reflects the school's core values.
  • Use effective classroom management strategies to promote respect, empathy, and collaboration among students.
  • Model a growth mindset and foster a sense of belonging in the classroom.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families rooted in consistency, care, and high expectations.
  • Work closely with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure the success of every student.
  • Collaborate with multiple grade-level teams throughout the year to ensure instructional alignment and student support.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school events to contribute to a strong school community.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, successes, and challenges.
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, and transitions as needed.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, events, and service-learning projects.
  • Support the development and organization of science materials, labs, and classroom resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the school's mission.
