About The Position

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School is seeking an experienced and qualified elementary school teacher who will embody the principles of the school’s philosophy. The teacher will support the mission and vision of the school by promoting the Catholic faith and the teachings of the Church, and by witnessing this faith through personal example. This role involves teaching all subjects using the AOD curriculum, state benchmarks, and national standards, while engaging students through best practice strategies. The teacher will assess students' academic and social growth, assist the administration in curriculum revision, and create well-crafted lesson plans. Additionally, the position includes performing non-instructional duties such as attendance, lunch duty, recess, and bus room duty. The teacher is expected to attend monthly in-service and staff meetings, maintain a safe and comfortable classroom environment, and participate in professional learning teams. Technology integration in instruction and the use of various student assessment tools are also key components of this role, along with designing alternate teaching techniques based on assessment results. Maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and ensuring strict confidentiality of student, parent, and school information are essential.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Strong example of Catholic Christian faith
  • Catechist certification (or willingness to attain certification)
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
  • Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
  • Competency in student management and supervision
  • Must take Protecting God's Children class

Responsibilities

  • Creates well-crafted lesson plans.
  • Performs various non-instructional duties, such as attendance, lunch duty, recess, and bus room duty.
  • Attends monthly in-service meetings, staff meetings, and committee meetings as required.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and comfortable classroom environment.
  • Participates in professional learning teams through memberships in school committees and grade level discussions.
  • Assures that technology is used in instruction and learning targets are specifically cited in each lesson.
  • Uses a variety of student assessment tools to gauge student understanding and will design alternate teaching techniques as a result.
  • Maintains positive relationships with other faculty and staff members and keeps information regarding students, parents, or school business strictly confidential.
