About The Position

St. Catharine of Siena School in Reading is seeking an Elementary Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, exempt position involves developing and implementing lesson plans to meet individual student needs, creating a safe and healthy learning environment, and fostering students' academic and faith growth. The teacher will actively instruct students, manage the classroom, communicate with families, and grade assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent.
  • Must communicate effectively with parents, students, and co-workers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
  • Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.
  • Possess an understanding of the supervision of employees and the communication skills necessary to relate to adult employees and volunteers in a collegial, as well as effective, and efficient manner.
  • Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
  • Able to maintain a high level of energy.
  • Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, a high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old.)
  • Attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans to meet each student's individual needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Design a safe and healthy classroom that enables learning and strives for students' success.
  • Actively instruct students, create lesson plans, assign and grade homework.
  • Manage students in the classroom.
  • Communicate with families.
  • Help students grow and understand their faith.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for learning and foster academic abilities.
  • Actively supervise students in hallways, cafeteria, bus areas, and at special events.
  • Rotate with staff on student arrival and dismissal.
  • Provide academic subject instruction by preparing lesson plans, activities, projects, and assignments.
  • Evaluate student performances and provide feedback.
  • Maintain fair, accurate, and timely grading policies, procedures, and attendance.
  • Grade papers, assignments, and assessments promptly and accurately.
  • Maintain and engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Identify materials needed to implement class activities/projects.
  • Communicate with students and parents on a regular basis about schedules, assignments, events, and individual student needs.
  • Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences.
  • Regularly check email and update web pages.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge.
  • Organize daily class time and develop weekly lessons with appropriate instructional materials.
  • Provide appropriate, detailed instructions/plans for a substitute teacher.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and technological tools.
  • Develop and update the curriculum for the classroom.
  • Evaluate each student's progress and keep appropriate records.
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record results of tests.
  • Prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Follow all Allentown Diocese policies.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate student supervision for a safe, orderly, effective, and productive environment.
  • Uphold Saint Catharine of Siena School's discipline procedures.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom stocked with appropriate supplies.
  • Supervise and manage students' behavior to foster a positive and healthy learning environment.
  • Attend all required in-service training meetings and workshops.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Be actively involved in the school community, including attending school events, activities, and fundraisers.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal.
