About The Position

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the elementary school principal functions as the chief executive and educational leader of an elementary school and is responsible for its programs, personnel, facilities and all other related activities as assigned. Rod Kelley Elementary School partially houses the District's Spanish Dual Immersion Program.

Requirements

  • Valid California Teaching Credential
  • Valid Administrative Services Credential
  • Five years of classroom teaching experience
  • Three years of administrative experience
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Must reside within 45-minutes of the GUSD Administration Office

Responsibilities

  • Implementation and maintenance of an effective, multifaceted curriculum, both academic and extra-curricular.
  • Development and supervision of standards-aligned curriculum assuring compliance with district and state requirements.
  • Infusion of technology in instruction.
  • Classroom observation and evaluation of teachers.
  • Planning to meet changing needs of students.
  • Articulation with student services.
  • Enlisting cooperative school-wide efforts by staff and students.
  • Modeling and facilitating professional learning communities (PLCs) and other research-based, data-driven collaborative practices.
  • Development of school mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Supervision and support of student activities.
  • Sensitivity and responsiveness to individual problems and concerns (staff/student/parent).
  • Recognition of student and staff accomplishments.
  • Establishing and maintaining sensitive relationships with the community.
  • Nurture and support of parent clubs, ELAC, and other volunteer groups.
  • Organization of "back-to-school night," Open House, parent events, and other activities that support the school community.
  • Utilization of community resources.
  • Provision of school facilities and resources for community services.
  • Principal visibility within the community.
  • Developing and maintaining an effective communication system.
  • Development of staff and student bulletins.
  • Agendizing and leading staff and leadership meetings.
  • Development and distribution of parent newsletters.

  • Preparation and follow-through of agendized meetings with all segments of the school population and interfacing programs.

  • Management of resources including revenue and expenditures, personnel, facilities and equipment, and special programs.

  • Determination of staffing needs to provide optimum services.

  • Supervision of supplies, text books and equipment inventories.
  • Supervision of record keeping (attendance, time sheets, purchase orders, invoices, accident reports).
  • Coordination of student services provided by off campus organizations.
  • Implementation, dissemination and operations of emergency and safety protocols at the school.
  • Development and implementation of site safety plan.
  • Professional development for staff, students and community members in emergency protocols such as Code Red drills, Run-Hide-Defend policies and other mandated emergency scenarios.
  • Management of public access to school facilities for both internal and external users.
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with district staff and emergency service providers to ensure the safety of staff, students and community members.
  • Assessing student progress, achievement, and behavior and providing assistance for positive student growth, social and academic.
  • Implementation of district and state testing requirements.
  • Development of well-defined programs, steps, and resources to assist students to develop to their full potential.
  • Establishment of standards of acceptable student behavior and pupil control measures.
  • Supervision of the recording and monitoring of student attendance.
  • Establishment and implementation of positive and preventative school-wide systems to support effective discipline and social and emotional growth.
  • Knowledgeable, keep current, interpret accurately, and apply district, state, and federal legislation as it relates to his/her school environment.
  • Ongoing review and synthesis of district policies, procedures, state and federal laws and legislative bills.
  • Establishment of legally based school policies and procedures for all aspects of the school's functions.
  • Coordination with the district, other schools, county, state and federal agencies and effective interaction with personnel from each.
  • Maintaining a high quality of instruction within the school.
  • Establishment and maintenance of relevant goals and objectives with annual evaluations.
  • Identification of school needs and deficiencies with a professional development plan to address needs.
  • Supervision of classroom instruction.
  • Evaluation and accountability of employees.
  • Promotion of joint effort and staff job satisfaction.
  • Keeping abreast of trends, policies, procedures, practices and laws that affect the school and its constituents.
