About The Position

KIPP Columbus is seeking a highly qualified Special Educator with a record of instructional excellence and a commitment to going above and beyond for students. Educators teach through an anti-racist lens and deliver effective, rigorous instruction that supports strong student outcomes and understanding. The Diverse Learning Team provides services to students with disabilities, including specially designed small-group instruction for students on assigned caseloads. The Inclusion Intervention Specialist pushes into general education classrooms and provides small-group instruction separately from general education peers. The role supports students with diverse learning needs in K–12 settings in Ohio. It includes implementing individualized education programs, designing instruction aligned with Ohio Academic Content Standards, providing interventions in general and special education settings, and collaborating with teachers, families, and service providers. The specialist supports inclusive practices, student academic and behavioral progress, and compliance with applicable special education standards, laws, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Current Ohio Special Education Intervention Specialist License, or willingness and ability to pursue certification by the start date through a traditional, alternative, or supplemental pathway.
Experience participating in ETR meetings and writing ETR Part 1.
Experience writing IEPs, monitoring and reporting progress, and collecting data.

Responsibilities

Implement individualized education programs (IEPs).
Design and deliver individualized instructional strategies aligned with Ohio Academic Content Standards.
Provide direct intervention for students with disabilities in general and special education settings.
Differentiate instruction and modify curriculum to meet students' learning needs.
Use evidence-based instructional strategies to support academic growth.
Co-plan and co-teach lessons with general education teachers.
Serve as a liaison among students, teachers, families, and related service providers.
Advocate for inclusive practices and ensure students receive appropriate accommodations.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including IEP and MTSS meetings.
Implement behavioral intervention plans and positive behavior supports.
Provide social-emotional learning support to students with disabilities.
Use de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
Assess academic and behavioral progress using formal and informal assessments.
Maintain IEP documentation and progress reports.
Adjust instructional strategies based on data-driven decision-making.
Follow Ohio's operating standards for schools serving children with disabilities and applicable federal and state special education laws, board policies, and district procedures.
Stay current on inclusive education practices through ongoing training.
Assist in training general education staff on inclusion strategies.
Involve parents and colleagues as collaborative learning partners.
