About The Position

The SVA Elementary Internal Substitute Teacher will provide classroom leadership and ensure the educational development of the students in elementary school. They will serve in the teacher's absence and ensure that all classroom protocols and lesson plans are followed. All teachers will be responsible for the adoption of the school's mission and vision as evidenced through thoughtful lesson planning aligned with the school’s curriculum components (i.e., Core Knowledge). Additionally, teachers will demonstrate a commitment to furthering their professional development and fostering relationships with families.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and support implementation of the SVA mission, model the tone and culture of the school, and accept accountability for student achievement.
  • Provide intervention support to students in collaboration with the classroom teacher when they are not needed to cover a classroom teacher's absence.
  • Provide supervision throughout the day in various areas.
  • Communicate proactively with other staff, students, and parents
  • Participate in school-wide professional development as well as continuing education.
  • Supervise students on campus before and after school; assist with carpool, monitor students during lunch, passing periods, and other activities, and discipline students according to established CKH guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Build and maintain strong personal relationships with parents, teachers, students, and community partners; Ensure that new families are well-oriented to SVA expectations and school culture.
  • Work with parents to heighten their involvement in the education of their students; Establish clear and age-appropriate expectations for behavior and disciplinary action; And be involved in the daily life of students through assemblies, recess, lunch and special projects and events.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures, maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school, and apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
  • Serve as an integral part of the school and the school community, performing certain duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and supporting certain extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations, participating in department and school meetings, and parent meetings.
  • Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
  • Utilize new teaching methods and educational tools in an ever-changing and strategic environment. Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences and establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Utilize technology and integrate the use of technology to provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities, instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, observe, evaluate, encourage and provide feedback on student's performance and development.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development preparing required reports on students and activities.
