About The Position

Donna ISD is seeking innovative, instructional leaders to serve as potential principals at our elementary schools. Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of all instructional and programmatic activities. Work with district personnel to ensure that instructional programs result in high academic achievement for all students. The ideal candidates will demonstrate their experience and knowledge in building campus culture, as well as knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, school improvement, social-emotional learning and supports, wellness and leadership development.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from accredited university
  • Three years’ experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years’ experience in administrative leadership
  • Fully certified
  • Texas principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
  • Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System Appraiser (TTESS)
  • Certified Texas Principal Evaluation and Support System Appraiser (TPESS)
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness.
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Light to moderate lifting is required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
  • This position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and staff, and enduring irregular or extended work hours.
  • The demands of extended work days (coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities, etc.) requires a high level of physical endurance.
  • This job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.
  • The employee must maintain emotional control under stress.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s), teacher(s), counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional assistants, clerical support staff, and custodians.
  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective action.
  • Regularly consult the campus-level committee about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education.
  • Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Foster collegiality and team building among staff.
  • Encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
  • Provide for two-way communication with superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students.
  • Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
  • Build common vision for school improvement with staff.
  • Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote school improvement.
  • Develop and set annual campus performance objectives for each of the Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and site-based decision making.
  • Develop, maintain, and use information systems and records information necessary to show campus progress on performance objectives addressing each Academic Excellence Indicator.
  • Interview, select, and orient new personnel.
  • Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
  • Define expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with students and parents.
  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with employees.
  • Assign and promote campus staff.
  • Make recommendations to superintendent on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.
  • Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development.
  • Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth.
  • Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
  • Comply with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the management of fiscal, administrative, and facilities functions.
  • Develop campus budget based on documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal requirements.
  • Keep programs within budget limits.
  • Maintain fiscal control.
  • Accurately report fiscal information.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required including accurate and timely reports of maximum attendance to requisition supplies.
  • Manage use of school facilities.
  • Supervise maintenance of facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
  • Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school environment.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and staff.
  • Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the school’s goals.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  • Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  • Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
  • Maintain professional conduct.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
